Women and Kala Cotton.

In 2026, we hope to create a small yet meaningful project in Rajasthan, offering women the opportunity to work from home through hand embroidery on woven Kala Cotton.

Kala Cotton is one of India’s oldest cotton varieties — drought resistant, regenerative and naturally strong. It is grown without irrigation or chemicals and woven locally.

Working with this beautiful, raw textile, we aim to create a small collection of hand-embroidered pieces made by women who often do not have the opportunity to participate in work outside the home. Embroidery offers flexibility, income and the possibility to work at their own pace.

We wish to develop a project that — in close dialogue with the women themselves — brings together tradition, materials and human connection. A project in which the women retain ownership, and where we support their own aspirations to create sustainable sources of income.

In time, we hope to document their work and the stories that accompany it — not as a commercial venture, but as a personal narrative about the strength that emerges when women build meaningful networks together.
